FK Fic "Salt"

I started this story several months back when prompt ideas were being gathered for fkficfest. While it didn't make it to the final round, this prompt proposed by brightknightie nonetheless set the creative gears in motion for me:

You are made of the sea and the stars,
and one day,
you are going to find yourself again.

I read the cited poem and found it strikingly beautiful. (It has also come to have personal meaning to me outside of fannish pursuits, but I digress.)

It gave me an idea for a post-LK story. The premise is that Nick survives the events of “Last Knight." LaCroix withdraws from him but is never far away.

I've been tinkering with the story for a while. It's time to stop tinkering and post it. Here it is at AO3:
