Yeah, I agree with you on the "feels like a turning point". Maybe even an old vamp can sometimes learn new tricks.
Concerning Constantine now being the eternal head of the mob family: I think Lacroix might either sympathise with Don, because like a true paterfamilias he wants to keep the family together, or, he'll watch him very very closely and as soon as he endangers the community, he'll just off him. I mean, the deal was turning him, not keeping him alive, right? And Lacroix said he tends to take things quite literally (if it's to his advantage ;) ).
About the "I don't want a new one, I like that one!"; it strikes me as funny, because when Janette first went to Lacroix, asking to turn Nick as a companion for her, Lacroix didn't seem that thrilled. Only later, he gets more and more obsessed with him. My theory is, that if Nick had been obedient and a "good lil' fledge", Lacroix might have lost interest. He hates that Nick perpetually defies him, but at the same time it gives him purpose. A "job" so to speak. Poor Janette, she's always at the shit end of the stick when the guys fight. But she never went against Lacroix, always embraced being a vampire. Maybe that's why she wasn't hunted around the globe, when she went away from Lacroix and Nick for years.
