One of my favourite episodes. I know it's not everybody's; but I particularly admire the way the usual tripartite structure (cop plot, flashback, personal plot) is so well integrated. Often two of these combine; but typically at least one of them is separate from the others.

And like you I admire the antiparallel master/youngster relationship. Here Nick is playing LaCroix (so to speak) and Serena is playing Nick. It doesn't sit well with him, of course; but he's trapped himself into the role of LaCroix's heir.
