This episode? Not a favorite. I'll just say that up front.

Tracy really does have to deal with sexist BS. Nick does a total dick move and urges Reese to put her on the Jerry show, which makes her uncomfortable and doesn't really seem necessary. Way to have your parner's back, Nick. And Reese goes along with it! Then, just as she anticipates, she is sexually objectified as "babe cop." Sigh. She puts up with a lot.

Thank goodness Tracy doesn't know what Vachon was thinking in this episode. She's wondering what the parameters of their relationship are and why Vachon is so dumb while he's going through her refrigerator, checking out her ass, and reminiscing about The Good Ole Days when he and his bros could kill women for funsies. For a good time, do NOT call Vachon.

Meanwhile, Natalie has had it with Nick. He takes her for granted and expects her to go along with whatever. Enough! But it is executed SO WEIRDLY in the episode. This great idea for a conflict would have been sooooo much better served if it played out across multiple episodes where we more clearly see the problem, Nick experiences the consequences for more than a day or two, and he actually has to do something meaningful to resolve it. Because the resolution here was deeply unsatisfying. Flowers and a card? Nat knew that when Nick was silent in the hallway at the station that he cared? WHAT???? Great initial idea, poor execution.

The whole snitch meetup on camera thing though? I literally LOLed. I remembered Tracy having a staged meet with Vachon, but I did not recall the dialog nor pick up on what it was referring to. This is what I'm talking about:
Tracy: Hey, Vinny, what's going on?

Vachon: Looks like the deal went south. The Fat Man had his gunsel ice Thursby and then he took off with the bird.

Tracy: Um, where's the bird now?

Vachon: On its way to Cairo.

Jerry interjects with excitement that it "sounds so street," but Charly says it "sounds familiar."

Ha! It sounds familiar because Vachon is making references to The Maltese Falcon! Thursby, the Fat Man, and Cairo are all characters in the story and "the bird" is the titular object. RIP Thursby, who was, indeed, iced in the story. LOL. I don't remember picking up on this before so prior viewings must have been before I saw or read The Maltese Falcon.

So even though I don't care for this episode, that little discovery was a lot of fun. Plus it gave me a...

Fic/flashback idea: One or more FK vampires cross paths with Dashiell Hammett (author of The Maltese Falcon and other "hard-boiled" detective stories) in the 1920s. Whatever happens inspires one of Hammett's works. Maybe Red Harvest because in that one, the nameless main character sets off an absolute bloodbath and that seems like just the thing for a vampire.
