9. More scenes from a Babylon 5 fixit AU.

I ended up doing a number of additional prompt fills from the same universe as this fill (#4 in the previous post, major series spoilers).

1000 words or so of fixit snippets from the same post-canon AU )

10. And while I'm keeping the spoiler stuff confined to its own post, another B5 spoiler fixit AU based off "War Without End."

Here is my first attempt to making a graphic of a Storygraph Challenge. I completed 3 challenges this year (A-Z Challenge, Read Queer All Year and the Trans Rights Readathon), but making this one exhausted me, so until I find a better way, this will be it for graphics. Maybe one day Storygraph will make some shiny graphics for their challenges, I mean, it's right there in their title, yes?

This year I'm doing Community Thursdays. Some of my activity will involve maintaining communities I run, and my favorites. Some will involve checking my list of subscriptions and posting in lower-traffic ones. Today I have interacted with the following communities...

* Posted "How to Restart When You've Fallen Off Your Goals" in [community profile] goals_on_dw.

* Continued checking and responding to Wishlist posts in [community profile] snowflake_challenge.  See my Granting Wishes post.

* Made my 3 nominations for the Rose and Bay Awards: Other Project in [community profile] crowdfunding. Nominations are still open through January, so if you haven't made yours yet, we could sure use more! Boost your favorite crowdfunded projects and patrons from 2025.

There is a general strike called for Friday January 23 in Minnesota. Stay home from work if it feels right, and definitely don't cross any picket lines, including the electronic ones of shopping at big corporations like Amazon, etc. (if you can avoid it).

From my union:
"This is a verified page fundraising support for the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO and Working Partnerships' 2026 rapid response effort to meet the needs of impacted union members, worker center members, and their families..."

Here is how you can help:

How to help if you are outside Minnesota.

She covers a variety of topics, including how to start preparing for if and when this shit comes to your home state, and the suggestion to talk About immigration, and make it clear you think it’s GOOD.

If you are in Minnesota.

HOW TO RESTART WHEN YOU’VE FALLEN OFF YOUR GOALS

If you’ve fallen off your goals, welcome to being a real person.

It happens to everyone, including the women who look like they have it all together. The difference is not that they “never fall off.” The difference is that they restart faster.

Challenge 288:
INCONVENIENCES
Sometimes it’s the little things that really get you. The potted plant you could have sworn was out of the cat’s reach – except apparently it wasn’t. The lunch you were definitely going to pack, until you ran out of time. Someone needs to put gas in the car, and you have a meeting all morning, and there’s a horde of alien locusts on Main Street again so you’re going to have to work around that, too. It may or may not be anybody’s fault, exactly – except the alien locusts – but it sure is inconvenient!

Write a story about inconveniences.

BONUS GOAL: Cat-astrophe

If your submission features cats (alien cat-ish things count), it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, January 26 at 9:00PM EST.
• Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile
• Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 288 – inconveniences
• If you have questions about this challenge, please ask them here

This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls. It fills "The Milky Way" square in my 1-1-25 card for the Public Domain Day Bingo fest. It has been sponsored by a pool with [personal profile] fuzzyred.

"A Scarf of Stars"

In winter,
on a moonless night,

the Milky Way shimmers
like a scarf of stars

wound around
night's black neck.

3 Sentence Ficathon fill: Miami Vice

Here is one of the fills I wrote for [community profile] threesentenceficathon. It got such a lovely response, I decided to share it here first, although I'll be posting more later.

For the prompt: any, any, "Strange, the way it felt like home – to wander through the dark, alone."

DARK AND LIGHT

The night was a familiar companion, dark and comforting, like the only home he’d ever known, but at the same time empty and cold now that he’d let the only light in his life walk away.

Sleep was elusive as always, fractured by nightmares of the worst times and taunting visions of what might have been, still, the 3:00 am knock at the door was as startling as a gunshot… especially since he felt who was on the other side with every fiber of his being.

When Sonny opened the door, Rico stood there with a bag slung over one shoulder and a sheepish but hopeful expression on his face; underneath that, though, was the echo of the same desperation, loneliness, and love that had swamped Sonny ever since they’d said goodbye… he let the light in.

[personal profile] moonhare posted a lovely picture of snow, and a very amusing still life of "Snow Predicted."  It got me thinking that occasions would make a great theme for still life in general.

There's more evidence that the shingles vaccine reduces the risk of Alzheimer's disease: two more natural experiments (in which people were offered the vaccine based on date of birth or where they lived). One of them comparED the older Zostavax vaccine with the newer Shingrix: https://erictopol.substack.com/p/spotlight-on-the-shingles-vaccineagain

As the blogger, Eric Topol says, "If this vaccine was a drug and reduced Alzheimer’s by 20%, it would be considered a major breakthrough for helping to prevent the disease! But as a vaccine, it hasn't reached any sense of being a blockbuster"

A friend asked about shopping for clothes over 40, with an eye toward age-appropriate and fashionable wear, given an opera subscription. That's different from my typical needs, but I'm familiar enough with wrangling clothes to have plenty of ideas ...

Title: Wangxian Waterfall
Fandom: Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed
Character(s): Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji
Details: Building happy Mo Dao Zu Shi scenes using Lego and alt bricks.
Summary: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji play a song together.

Speaking of AI, I just gave google translate an image description to spellcheck, and it added a definition of "guqin" to the English translation of my Chinese alt/title text.

Original Chinese: 一个非乐高积木的瀑布,旁边有魏无羡迷你任务和蓝忘机站在一起。魏无羡有他的笛子,蓝忘机有他个古琴。

Google Translate's English: A waterfall made of non-Lego bricks, with mini-figures of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji standing next to it. Wei Wuxian has his flute, and Lan Wangji has his guqin (a Chinese zither).

I deleted "guqin" to see what would happen and no lie, google translate added "(the sentence ends abruptly)".

(Will it be years or months, I wonder, before this post will sound hilariously dated?)

(...Or weeks?)
