Trope of the Month

I'm intrigued by this month's Trope of the Month over at [community profile] trope_of_the_month. It's "five things" or "five things plus one different thing."

Anyone else thinking of doing something with this month's trope?

I remember this format being very popular in the early/mid-2000s when I was previously active as a fan fiction enthusiast. I never wrote anything with this format and I don't know if it is still popular. But it was a format that I liked reading (including variations in the number of things).

Trope of the Month is also my kind of challenge because although there is a deadline if you want to post in the group, it's not like there's a recipient or anyone getting let down if you don't meet the deadline. I have some time off this month and some ideas so maaaaaybe I could actually do something by the deadline. (Plus it looks like there's amnesty on prompts in January so even less pressure.)

If you're thinking of doing it, how do you think you'll run with the prompt?

I'm not thinking of doing it, but I've certainly seen that trope in the wild on fairly recent fic. Both the five-things-X-did(n't) and the five-things-plus-one. I don't think it's as ubiquitous a trope as it used to be; but people do certainly still write it.

I love reading that format but I've never been able to get it to work for me in writing. I'll get three things out, or all the parts are of wildly varied word counts (which is fine I guess but it looks/reads oddly to me when I have the editing cap on), or whatever else. I just never like my results with it.

On that cheery note - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it - or am happy to talk about what you think you might want to do with it :)
