FK Zines of Yore "F is for Flashback" and "The Wisdom of LaCroix"

I don't know if print zines are still a thing, but they were certainly popular back in the day. I picked up two Forever Knight zines back in the 90s, "F is for Flashback" and "The Wisdom of LaCroix."

"F is for Flashback" was a charity zine containing humorous flashback stories and very funny cartoon illustrations. "The Wisdom of LaCroix" was a mini-zine containing a collection of LaCroix quotes organized topically.

"F is for Flashback"

The premise of this zine is that Nick hired an assistant to help LaCroix write a memoir. LaCroix then enjoys the opportunity to tell his side of their story. The the zine is mainly a collection of funny stories set in the past. The text is quite funny and accompanied by equally funny illustrations. These are most of the illustrations.

Cover:

1228 and Nick complains when LaCroix bites him to bring him over. "Nicolas, what do you think vampires do? Drain their victims with a straw?"

Flying lesson for Nick as a new vampire. "Rule #1 for flying: always look UP before launching."

"Father's Day" flashback. Nick does not want to go with LaCroix after LaCroix tracks him down in Southern California. "Nicolas, if you don't get up right now, I will carry you out."

Continuation of the above. LaCroix forces Nick on a train to begin the journey back to France. LaCroix reads a story when Nick complains he can't sleep on the train.

"Sons of Belial" flashback when Nick and LaCroix vamp out on the inquisitor. (This is followed by LaCroix forcing the inquisitor to go over remedial Latin because he is appalled by the inquisitor's grasp of the language.)

Shortly before "1966," Nick and LaCroix are in Bavaria during Oktoberfest.

"Fever" flashback with Nick and LaCroix in England. Nick suddenly remembers a battle in the name of William the Conqueror to which LaCroix replies, "The Battle of Hastings was in 1066. You weren't even born yet."

"Unreality TV" flashback and Nick brushes up on hypnotism skills.

For some reason, in the "present," LaCroix has a dog name Prospero. And you know I can't resist a vampire dog.

This is an advertisement for the zine that was in the "Bridging the Knight" program. As you can see, it was $7 to buy and the proceeds benefited Casey House, a charity supporting AIDS patients in Toronto.

“The Wisdom of LaCroix”

This zine is small (half letter sized) and has no illustrations. It’s a collection of quotes by LaCroix organized alphabetically by various topics.

This is epic. :) The cartoons are really well-made and funny. XD I hope I'll be able to find a copy some day.
The quote collection is such a thoughtful thing. Today you can easily look them up, but back then it was a really handy thing to have.
Thanks for sharing!

Well, "The Wisdom of LaCroix" has a page on Fanlore, but there's not much there. If you want to dip your toe in the water, adding a bit of text would be a fairly straightforward place to start.

And then you can tackle "F is for Flashback", which does not seem to have an article. Yet.
