We're pulling one from the "I have almost no memory of this episode" files.

Not much to say about "Strings" except that it's an incredibly sad one, and, FK being FK, there were missed opportunities for the story to be better than it was.

  • Rasputin. The only thing I remembered from this episode was that Rasputin was a vampire. I didn't remember why or how. Turns out I don't really don't care. We do get some good "LaCroix being LaCroix" bits in the flashbacks. And he's looking quite dapper in his gloves and morning coat, though why he even owns a morning coat is a bit of a mystery to me.

  • Dr. McGee as the real culprit was telegraphed pretty much the moment he opened the door of his house. While Tracy and Nick talked to McGee at the door, my FK-newbie spouse said, "That there is 90s Rasputin." Yep.

  • Tracy's daddy issues! She and Nick have soooooo much in common here. Whhhhyyyy did the show not do something with this?! The opportunity is RIGHT THERE. I'm thunderstruck.

  • Nothing gave me a greater sense of foreboding in this episode than Tracy walking into the cubicle farm that is Corporate Crimes so she could take a job looking at papers all day. (This is just the existential dread of a long time white-collar worker talking.)

  • Christie Black (you know, the singer). She and I definitely shopped at the same places in the 90s. She is the most underutilized character of this episode and I actually kind of cared about her. She kills three people, including her only family members. She almost kills herself. She's experienced tremendous grief, depression, and psychological abuse on top of suffering from drug addiction. And she's practically a non-entity in her own story. I could have done without the flashbacks entirely to free up more time for her. Also, are we just supposed ignore the aftermath of the extreme tragedy that is this woman's life? Where does she even GO from here? And can you imagine what's going to happen to her when this goes to trial? She's going to be eaten alive. But the show is like, Christie Black? Nahhhhhh, let's cap this episode off with Tracy making a Brave Phone Call to her dad. Sigh.

  • Anyone else think Christie Black is the kind of person Urs would have been drawn to?

Seems that I also only have the vague "oh, the Rasputin one" memories. But from how you describe Christie Black, yeah, I think Urs would have tried to help her.
