Went through two episodes tonight so a twofer on commentary.
Dead of Night
I didn't remember this one well. Pretty good!
It's not the first time we've seen "ghosts." Erica's ghost seemed to haunt Nick back in season 1's "Last Act." Are the ghosts here "real"? Uncertain. Real enough to those being haunted, I suppose.
The only haunting story I kind of remembered was Nick's. Haunted by killing his wife, ouch. First time he tried to bring someone over. Bummer. (Also, the show is kind of all over the place on how difficult it is to bring someone over. Janette's commented on it before. Nick failed here. But for brand new vampire dog, Perry? No problem. Is there anything Perry can't do? Shush, I won't hear a word against him.) At any rate, good story. And then when all those other ghosts showed up to take revenge on Nick, hella creepy!!
Tracy's ghost. WTF. The ghost girl wanted to kill her? Because she couldn't stop a moving train? Like for sure, a horrific tragedy, but damn. This one tips the scale in the "this is in our imagination" territory.
Natalie's ghost. First of all, wow. Second of all, WOW. Holy crap. I'm not even going to say how I thought that haunting "should" have resolved. Suffice it to say, I don't think FK is a show well-equipped enough to be dropping in a main character's abusive childhood like this and trying to resolve it in a couple minutes of screen time.
I wanted to know more about Reese’s ghost! Who was he??
You know what would have been a better, imo, haunting for Natalie (and maybe Nick too)? Richard Lambert. Remember that guy? Season 3 sure doesn't.
Is "pleading the Fifth" ubiquitous enough to be used as a turn of phrase in Canada? It's certainly a colloquialism used in the U.S. referring to the U.S. right not to incriminate yourself, but it's used in this episode conversationally a couple of times and both my spouse and I wondered about this.
Takeaway: Trauma: it's what's for breakfast. With a side of pleading the Fifth.

Another episode I barely remember. Because there was not much worth remembering here.
Who knew that a vampire video game could be so boring. You'd think a vampire video game would be scary or at least interesting. Oh well.
Funny enough, the show isn't that far off on what the tech would eventually look like. I have a VR headset and it has goggles and handheld controllers (they aren't gloves though).
But otherwise, lol, this isn't how VR works.
Fun fact: The VR headset prop was sold at the Bridging the Knight live auction in 1997. John Kapelos modeled it and really hammed it up during the auction.
More Nick backsliding. At one point, I was like, is this show even about a vampire who wants to regain his humanity anymore?
I do enjoy a good LaCroix scene (as does my FK-newbie spouse, who early on was like, "I wonder what LaCroix thinks of all this!" and then when LaCroix showed up, we had to pause and have a discussion about why LaCroix always seems to know what Nick is thinking about). So LaCroix showing up to nudge Nick toward the vampire path was a nice little interlude in an otherwise forgettable episode. It's all going rather nicely for LaCroix at this point. Nick drank human blood and came to LaCroix for help with understanding "all of who I am" at the end of "Night in Question." Nick again needed his help during and experienced a powerful desire for human blood after the events in "Sons of Belial." And now in this episode, Nick is drinking human blood and not in a moment of desperation like in "Night in Question," but rather because he consciously decides to do so. Further, he's enjoying "killing" in VR, for which the next logical step to LaCroix is killing in reality.
Was anyone else annoyed at Natalie throwing the VR headset in the fireplace? You can't just throw things like that in a fireplace. A gas fireplace, no less! Nick's definitely going to have to replace the insert.
Takeaway: Vampire VR games are not nearly as much fun as Beat Saber.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go fire up my own VR headset and beat the shit out of some virtual objects before I watch "The Human Factor."
