FK Fandom Miscellany
Sep. 19th, 2023 05:30 pmNow that I've almost finished rewatching the show, I've started picking more through my miscellaneous FK "stuff" that's been knocking around in a box for decades. There are a number of papers in there. I'm assuming I picked up a lot of them at "Bridging the Knight," but people also used to mail things to one another.
One thing I have is a letter from someone named Jennifer apologizing for the delay in sending me "this." I'm not entirely sure what "this" was, but I think it likely was an FK script photocopy since there was one in the same stack of papers as the letter. I had picked up an original script at "Bridging the Knight" and I assume I photocopied it for others who also had scripts and we swapped (I have one original script and three script photocopies).
At any rate, to make up for the delay in sending "this," Jennifer sent me some things. She sent a book signing announcement for Susan Garrett's FK novel. Jennifer went to the event and picked me up a signed copy of the book. So nice!!! The fandom was like that.

The Barnes & Noble announcement mentions a Vampire Trivia Contest and this paper was in there, which I assume was it (enjoy the quiz, but please do not answer question #1 in any comments as I am reading the book right now and can't remember the answer and don't want to be spoiled for it):

There are other papers in the same stack. Another quiz that was created by Susan Garrett and some SOSFK stuff, but I have no idea if these were things Jennifer also mailed to me or that I picked up elsewhere.
At any rate, Jennifer signed off her letter with a cute little vamp smiley along with a "Long live the Knight!" I'm dismayed that I don't specifically remember Jennifer, but if she's still out there, I send my thanks to her out into the universe.

Date: 2023-09-20 01:02 pm (UTC)I kept up a regular mail correspondence with a couple fandom buddies and no longer have those letters (though I’m still loosely in touch with them, we’re not mailing each other letters anymore). Late last night, I recalled I had a short correspondence at some point with another fan and this may have been the mysterious Jennifer.
Anything that was on the internet rather than paper was was "lost" to me. However, Greer Watson's archiving efforts have certainly unlocked A LOT of memories for me. :-)

Date: 2023-09-20 01:43 pm (UTC)On that same tape were also fan music videos someone had laboriously put together. Haven't found those particular videos on YouTube and I'm sure VHS transfer would be terrible quality anyway. I recall there was one to "She's Like the Wind" that was a Nick/Nat video. Another to "Hero" (Mariah Carrey) Nick-focused. Another to "Self Control" (Laura Branigan). There were more I can't remember. But the absolute best one was a Raven-focused one set to the theme song to "Cheers."
